Withania somnifera also know as ashwagandha is a popular shrub in Solanaceae family that grows in India, Middle East and parts of Africa. The plant particularly its root as been used in traditional ayurvedic medicines since years.
Why is it named Ashwagandha and how it is evolved?
The name ashwagandha is derived from Sanskrit word ashva, meaning 'horse', and gandha, meaning 'smell', reflecting that the root has a strong horse-like odour.
